Our Story

Once upon a time, in the midst of the global pandemic that gripped the world, a visionary young black woman found herself at the intersection of passion, purpose, and perseverance. Our founder, a native of Ghana, had long been fascinated by the healing properties of the natural resources abundant in her homeland. As the pandemic unfolded, she saw an opportunity to channel her years of research and testing that came from her own desperate attempts to heal and rejuvenate her skin into creating something meaningful for people facing the challenges of stress, uncertainty, and disrupted skincare routines. She tapped into her Ghanaian roots, partnering with a women’s cooperative in a remote village to ethically source butters and oils. These became the core of Bellelana’s formulas.

After countless trials in her home kitchen, Dr. Rubby successfully developed a line of gentle yet potent skincare targeting conditions like hyperpigmentation and eczema in melanated skin. With scientifically-backed botanicals and zero harsh chemicals, Bellelana was born officially in January 2021.

An MD's Mission for Healthy, Glowing Skin

As a medical student, Dr. Rubby was alarmed to see the prevalence of skin issues like acne, eczema, and hyperpigmentation among her fellow black women and even herself. She noticed how mainstream skincare products irritated sensitive skin and contained questionable ingredients.

Rubby made it her mission to create something better, so she spent years researching clean formulations and botanical remedies while finishing her medical training. Armed with her medical knowledge and a passion for clean, effective skincare, Dr. Rubby meticulously selected each ingredient for its proven benefits. From the soothing properties of aloe vera to the antioxidant-rich extracts of indigenous plants, every element of Bellelana Skin was carefully chosen to nurture and enhance the skin. By the end of 2020, Rubby was making natural skincare batches for family and friends out of her home.

“I want Bellelana to be a symbol of empowerment and a testament to the belief that true beauty lies in the harmonious balance of science, nature, and self-care.”
